Mike Urquhart
Mike is currently an independent consultant in the Piano Industry offering his services throughout all 50 States and also teaches group piano in his own Home Studio, he believes that every family needs music. He is the king of product showcases compete with the Scottish passion. A marvelous Scottish Entertainer, Mike is equally a skilled musician as he is a gifted comedian.
Mike plays all types of popular music for all to sing-a-long and dance to. He wears the traditional Kilt and most of the time brings his friends to play the bagpipes, drums and guitar. His mates sing too! He plays a series of good old Scottish songs with the odd Irish one thrown in!
Although he has performed throughout the UK he has performed from New York to Miami, and Chicago to LA. Right here in the US. He has performed or conducted in Countries such as: Morocco, Japan, South Africa, Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Belgium, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
Previously Mike was a Senior Account Manager for Yamaha Piano Division In the Great Mid-West picking up all three major awards within his first 18 months on the job. He collected (A) the Budget Achievement of the Year, (B) Credit Service Relations and (C) the District Sales Manager of the Year.
Through Mike’s leadership, vision and ability to build a strong team of dealers that believe in themselves, the Midwest was able to increase its business dramatically by the end of the 2007/2008 fiscal year. He was responsible for motivating and training almost 100 of the Music industries staff and assisting the dealer’s principle in building their markets.
Prior to becoming a Senior Account Manager for Yamaha Piano Division, he was a National Product Specialist for Yamaha Piano Division specializing in training and conducting Product Showcases on Disklaviers and Clavinovas covering all 50 States. He has been known to wear his kilt at many of these private events!
Prior to joining Yamaha Mike was District Sales Manager for Roland Contemporary Keyboards Division, managing the state of Texas & New Mexico where he picked up 4 top awards in 4 years including District Manager of the year and Highest Achievement awards. He installed passion and pride in his team throughout Texas.
Mike has traveled throughout the US with National Artists such as Seth Rye, [of Disneys Electric Light Street Parade fame] Rosemary Bailey [an origional Hammondette!] and good friend Country star, Rick DePiro. [Ricky Dee]

Began performing at the age of 2 ½, appearing on numerous Scottish television, radio and stage shows across the British Isles, including a live televised appearance in 1988 at the Royal Albert Hall, London, conducting his ensemble "Aberdeen Percussion Ensemble"
At age 9, he was runner up on the televisions UK version of American Idol, ‘Opportunity Knocks’ with Hughie Green’ as well as appeared on TV’s ‘Junior Showtime’.
Taught at regional schools and colleges in Aberdeenshire and the principal teacher of music and drama at the American international School in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK
Traveled throughout Europe giving music education seminars for music teachers belonging to the European Council of International Schools. [E.C.I.S.]
On stage, he played the parts of ‘Ariel’ in The Tempest: ‘Puck’ in A midnight summers dream: ‘Amahl’ in “Amahl and the Night visitors”: Alfie Dolittle in “My fair Lady”: ‘Herbie’ in Gypsy”.
He played drums for a variety of Stars in Scotland as a teenager. Stars such as ‘The Alexander Brothers; ‘Andy Stewart’ [of Donald furs yer trousers fame] and ‘Lulu’ [Kennedy-Cairns] Of course, Lulu was fame for singing the title song in the Bond movie, ‘The man with the Golden Gun’ and with the song ‘To Sir with love’ where she also made her film debut with Sidney Poitier. He also played for Grampian Televisions weekly show band ‘A touch of Scotland’. Mike also Played for Scotland’s ‘Ruby Rendall’ of ‘Ruby red wine’ fame. Ruby was Mike’s favorite Scottish band growing up.
Produced, hired and conducted full orchestras for musical productions in Scottish theaters including "Guys and Dolls," Showboat,” "My Fair Lady" and "Grease," One of his most enjoyable Musical Productions he conducted for was Marvin Hamlish musical, ’ ‘They’re Playing Our Song’. As well as performing with his own band "Satellite Band" Mike also conducted many Christmas Pantomimes at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen.
Personal credits include albums in Britain such as "Hey Mambo," "The Door is Always Open,” "Just a Wee Drap That's A" and “Magic Moments” on the Yamaha Clavinova
Played Percussion on Broadway for ‘The Secret Garden’, and ‘The City of Angles’.
Hosted several’ Scottish Highland Games’ in the UK and in the US as well as hosted a variety of ‘Sir Robbie Burns’ nights in both Countries. Mike will continue to do so.
